GAMI Incubator

To survive and innovate, the media industry must embrace new technologies, products, and business models. This requires fostering collaboration among various stakeholders driving innovation within the sector and supporting transformation and change within news media organisations. The GAMI Incubator programme, led by the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), sets out to support media organisations with two main objectives: fostering collaboration and facilitating transformation and change management.

The GAMI Incubator programme aims to:

→ Bridge gaps between media organisations, their challenges, startups, and new skills

→ Facilitate collaboration and change management between legacy media and startups

→ Support new skills uptake and technology adoption in Finnish newsrooms

→ Create opportunities for promising startups in the Finnish media landscape

→ Share best practices and lessons learned across the Finnish media industry

GAMI Incubator #Finland

The first edition of the programme started in Finland in March 2024. The GAMI Incubator #Finland is funded by the Media Industry Research Foundation of Finland and supported by the Finnish Media Federation. Discover the three teams taking part in the programme:

Challenge 1

The first team brings together A-lehdet, a family-owned magazine publisher, and the Finnish startup Neuwo. A-lehdet is known for its strong portfolio of titles covering home and living, wellbeing, food, fashion. Neuwo specialises in advanced contextual enrichment tools designed to enhance content engagement. Together, the team will address A-lehdet’s challenge of expanding beyond traditional article-centric publishing by leveraging Neuwo’s AI-driven insights and integrating external data sources to create more personalised content experiences.

Challenge 2

The second team brings together Sanoma, Finland’s leading media company, and the Belgian start-up Limecraft. Sanoma reaches approximately 97% of Finns weekly through its diverse portfolio of media brands. Limecraft specialises in Media Asset Management and production workflow automation for media producers across audiovisual, ProAV, and written press. Together, the team will address Sanoma’s challenge of improving content production efficiency by developing a tool that automates the transformation of phone interviews directly into structured draft articles.

Challenge 3

The third team brings together Viestimedia, a leading Finnish media company focused on agriculture, forest industries, and related sectors, and the Norwegian start-up Factiverse. Factiverse is pioneering tools that extract reliable, real-time insights from text, video, and audio to support content verification. Together, the team will address Viestimedia’s challenge of strengthening and maintaining public trust during political campaigns by developing solutions that detect misinformation and improve the accuracy, credibility, and transparency of reporting.
