Noora Alanne

Noora Alanne is the Executive director of the Media Industry Research Foundation of Finland and Growth Director at the Finnish Media Federation (Finnmedia).

The foundation provides funding for academic research and R&D projects both in universities and media companies. Previously Noora worked for several years at Aller Media and Bonnier Publications in various positions such as project manager and digital marketing specialist. She has been a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley and holds a PhD degree in science from Aalto University. Her research focuses on social media platforms and how they transform the media industry.

Rolf Dyrnes Svendsen is Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Global Alliance for Media Innovation (GAMI) founded in January 2015 by WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspaper and News Publishers.

Rolf is general manager and Chairman of the Board of NxtMedia network in Norway. The network is a one-stop shop for media innovation based in Norway’s tech capital Trondheim connecting newspapers, broadcast and web industry, universities and the media software industry. Leading partners of the NxtMedia cluster include the Norwegian Media Businesses’ Association (MBL), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norwegian Broadcasting Cooperation (NRK), Polaris Media, regional newspapers Adresseavisen and Troender-Avisa and more than 50 members and associates in Norway and Sweden.

NxtMedia organises media conferences and seminars in Norway and the Nordic countries, topic driven business networks in both sport tech and VR/AR, initiates consortiums and development programs in research and cross-profession projects, organises a mentor service for students, and tutors dissemination in innovation.

Rolf is the former Editor of Adresseavisen, Norway’s fifth largest news- and advertising media house. Adresseavisen is the digital powerhouse of Polars Media organizing 36 local newspapers in western, mid- and north of Norway. Rolf held multiple editorial and commercial positions including heading the Polaris Media Lab providing software development and maintenance for editorial and commercial purposes in closely connected to main owner Schibsted’s digital development units.

Alexandra Folwarski, the leader of the Media Innovation Lab at Wiener Zeitung, is committed to bolstering media startups and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations to devise solutions for the media sector. Besides her lecturing and advisory roles, she is also the esteemed publisher of the local journalism platform, Wiener Flaneur.

Mounir Krichane is the director of the Initiative for Media Innovation (IMI), based at EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland. He received his Master of Science degree from EPFL in 2005. He then worked as a scientific collaborator in the National Centres of Competence in Research (NCCR) of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), where he received seed funding from the NCCR MICS (Mobile Information and Communication Systems) program in 2008 to develop a startup. Following his experience as an entrepreneur, Mounir Krichane joined Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) in 2009, where he participated in the merger of the rsr.ch and tsr.ch websites and the development of the maRTS community platform. In 2014, he participated in the creation of the RTS Digital Lab, where he managed a wide range of innovative projects combining technology and content. In his current role, which he has held since 2018, he works with researchers, media professionals and entrepreneurs to build a bridge between academic institutions and media organizations.

Andrew Perkis holds a chair within Media Technology at NTNU. His current research focus is within Immersive Media Technology Experiences with a special focus on sensor based digital storytelling. Kim Svendsen

Denmark

Kim Svendsen is the Director of the Stibo Accelerator, an initiative launched in 2014 to support talented young students and relevant startup companies and connecting them with research project parthers, industry insight and mentors from the vast Stibo network. Stibo is the sole owner of news industry technology solution providers CCI Europe and Escenic with customers all across the globe. Kim has worked on the technology side of the news industry for 13 years, recently as Vice President Marketing for CCI.

Denis TEYSSOU

Denis Teyssou

Denis Teyssou is the editorial manager of Agence France-Presse (AFP) Medialab, a team dedicated to Research and Development and innovation projects. Being a journalist and an open source geek, Denis has led AFP’s participation in three European funded projects, two FP7 (Papyrus, GLOCAL), and a running innovation action Horizon2020 InVID, on user-generated video content verification. He has also led for AFP seven French funded R&D projects : five from the National Research Agency (RMM2, EDyLex, OTMedia, ChronoLines and the running ASRAEL) and two from the French government fund FUI (SCRIBO, SAMAR).

Lina Timm is founder and Program Manager of Media Lab Bayern, an incubator for new ideas in digital journalism. The Media Lab Bayern supports talents and teams in founding media startups with mentoring programs and financial support. Previous to this, Lina wrote for outlets like Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung or ZEIT and worked as video journalist for formats that screened on ARTE or Prosieben. She studied German studies, media sciences and sociology in Hamburg and attended the German School of Journalism in Munich. As a side project she founded the Slack community www.digital-journalism.rocks, which is a place to share best practices and expertise from now over 1000 digital journalists.
